Thinkin Pink....

I have a favor to ask of all my new bloggy friends!

My youngest daughter has a friend who has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  She recently at the age of 29 had a double mastectomy.  I'm going to post some of her story in her own words.

Thats Michelle or "Mish" as she's known by her friends on the right.....The reason for this post is that she has a wish to be a bat girl for a day.  This is the contest site Honorary Bat Girl for a Day.  Once you get there you look in the gallery for "Mish"...you will see her with the Phillie's Phanatic as all good Phillie's fans would want to be...LOL  That aside....here is a bit of Michelle's story.

Cancer is all on my dad's side of the family, not just breast cancer but ovarian and others. I have a hereditary gene that is mutated called triple negative. Even though they got all of the cancer I still have to do chemo because that is how they have to get rid of triple negative. It could still be floating in my body because of it being genetic. I don't need radiation a) because it was too small (1.5cm, stage 1) and b) you can't pin point it because of the type.

I only had it in my right breast. My option was a masectomy or lumpectomy. With the lumpectomy I had a 9% chance it would come back. With the masectomy my percentage is just 1%. That made my decision there. My next was do I remove just one of my breasts or both. I opted for both so I wouldn't have to go through this again.

I will have implant reconstruction.  The implants will be an outpatient surgery which I cannot have until after chemo.  Chemo starts this Weds. It is 8 sessions, 1x every other week. My sessions should be complete by mid July. My implants will be 2 weeks after. I was told that the doctors have only seen 2 women not lose their hair with the treatment I am having, and that it is suppose to start falling out within the first 2 weeks of treatment. I'm trying to stay positive with the hair thing but it's kind of getting to me now.

All and all, it is what it is. Everything happens for a reason and this is just another hurdle of life I have to completely jump. I'm a firm believer that from everything bad something good happens. I'm already seeing the reprocussion of that in the overwhelming support I'm receiving now. But also my outlook on everything. I've always spread the awareness and been a huge supporter of this but more so now then ever....

I know that I have not been a blogger for very long.  I have a few (thank you all so very much) followers...but those followers have followers and so on and so forth.  The web is such a powerful place and it has amazed me that almost every blog I have visited has been full of Christian kindness!  What a wonderful world I have landed in.

So if you would all take a moment to cast a vote or say a prayer for "Mish" I know she would appreciate it as would I!!

Blessing to you all,

Sue

Hi Sue, thanks so much for stopping by, leaving a comment, and for your kind thoughts. I am so sorry to read about Mish... she has a great attitude and the power of prayer can be amazing. I saw the Phillie Phanatic part and I am wondering if you are in PA or NJ. We live in PA.
